History must be learned and understood so past events do not happen again. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are these types of events. By the time Truman took office, Japan was nearly defeated. There were people in the Japanese government trying to find a way to end the war. However many believed the Japanese would fight to the bitter end. This is the same thing many Americans would do if people landed on our coast to fight. Our government did not want this war to be drawn out and we were still losing soldiers due to Japanese submarines and suicidal ?kamikaze? attacks. Even though Japan might agree to a negotiate peace with conditions, after twelve years of Japan military aggression against China and over three and one-half years of war with the United States our leaders were reluctant to accept anything less than completed surrender. Many Americans had an intense hatred towards Japanese?s more than the Germans. There were many reasons for this feeling, the bombing of Pearl Harb or, the horrible acts committed by Japanese soldiers, mistreatment of American prisoners and especially for racial reasons. This could be seen even in the United States with the camp many Japanese Americans were placed in during the war. Not to say some punishment was not deserved the question continues to be if the atomic bomb was the right and ethical thing to do. This continues to be a controversial issue even today. Many historians argue that it was necessary to win the war and save lives. Others have argued that Japan would have surrendered anyway and President Truman used the bomb to intimidate the Soviet Union. This question may never be answered but it will be something that is continually discussed. If you think about it a weapon of mass destruction can only be used for one thing. It would never have the effect they want unless it is used at least once. . As the work continued towards the completion of the bomb and its delivery system, there was much debate over how to use the bomb. Some wanted to do a demonstration to convince Japan to surrender. However our government was concerned to bomb might be a dud, prisoners of war could be moved to that area, and/or they might shoot the B-29 bomber planes down. However some of the Manhattan Project scientists were not satisfied that their voices were being heard. They believed since they had built the bomb they had a right in helping determine how it would be used. In the end the scientists agreed that the bomb should be used. There were four cities in Japan chosen that would have the most psychological impact and weaken the military resistance. Kyoto was one of original cities choose then removed because it was a cherished cultural center. In the end the cities were Hiroshima, Niigata, Kokura Arsenal, and Nagasaki. There were two types of atomic bombs used in the bombing of Japan, one bomb had plutonium and one had uranium. There were also question regarding the effectiveness of the bombs since they had not been tested. Since there was not enough weapon grade uranium only the plutonium bomb was tested. It was called the Trinity test and at 5:30 a.m. on July 16, 1945 the test was successful. The final decision to drop the bomb was approved by President Truman. The order was to attack Hiroshima, Kokura, Niigate, and Nagasaki in this order after August 3rd. Japan was issued a warning to surrender or suffer prompt and utter destruction. The Potsdam Declaration made no mention of the emperor remaining as ceremonial head of state and it was rejected by Japan on July 29, 1945. During these negations soldiers were still being injured and killed in this war. On July 29th the Indianapolis was sunk by a Japanese submarine. There were also daily air raids and naval bombardment in Japan. All sides were continuing with the war during these negations. At 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945 a uranium bomb call ?Little Boy? was released over Hiroshima. This bomb detonated 1,900 feet above the city. The Arcade and Premium versions of the Xbox 360 are very similar with a smooth rectangular shape with rounded edges and a big circular button in the centre with small green lights surrounding it. Hence, one cannot easily identify criminal activity by individuals in the most impoverished and crime ridden areas.Yet the non-identification of criminal activity in an environment does not lead to the presumption that there is none. In order to have a compelling reason to further believe that a large majority of people living in the most ‘criminalized' areas refrain from committing crime, another factor must be considered.This leads us to the second logical presumption—the tendency to attribute certain activities to certain individuals.  Criminal activities are easily identified with criminals in the sense that when an armed robbery occurred in a certain city bank, the immediate suspect will be the criminals who are known to rob banks or who have previous records of armed bank robbery.In this sense, the most crime ridden locality will be included in the list of the ‘hideouts' of potential suspects apparently after each criminal activity is identified to have transpired somewhere else. Hence, there becomes the tendency to attribute certain activities to certain individuals.With this in mind, individuals living in the most crime ridden are prone to be prime candidates for suspects in criminal activities. Their response may be twofold: either they will live up to their ‘label' since they are already ‘brand ed' or they will seek to refrain from committing crime.The first option is indeed probable, yet one factor hinders it from turning into reality: their incapacity to overpower the law due to their impoverished state. How Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition Works In the quest for ever-improving fuel efficiency and emissions reduction, an old and very promising idea has found new life. HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) technology has been around for a long time but has recently received renewed attention and enthusiasm. While the early years saw many insurmountable (at the time) obstacles whose answers would only come as sophisticated computer controlled electronics were developed and matured into reliable technologies, progress stalled. Time has, as it always does, worked its magic and nearly every problem has been solved. HCCI is an idea whose time has come with nearly all of the parts and pieces of technology and know-how in place to make a real go of it. What is HCCI? An HCCI engine is a mix of both conventional spark-ignition and diesel compression ignition technology. The blending of these two designs offers diesel-like high efficiency without the difficult- and expensive- to deal with NOx and particulate matter emissions. In its most basic form, it simply means that fuel (gasoline or E85) is homogeneously (thoroughly and completely) mixed with air in the combustion chamber (very similar to a regular spark-ignited gasoline engine), but with a very high proportion of air to fuel (lean mixture). As the engines piston reaches its highest point (top dead center) on the compression stroke, the air/fuel mixture auto-ignites (spontaneously and completely combusts with no spark plug assist) from compression heat, much like a diesel engine. The result is the best of both worlds: low fuel usage and low emissions. How Does HCCI Work? In an HCCI engine (which is based on the four-stroke Otto cycle), fuel delivery control is of paramount importance in controlling the combustion process. On the intake stroke, fuel is injected into each cylinders combustion chamber via fuel injectors mounted directly in the cylinder head. This is achieved independently from air induction which takes place through the intake plenum. By the end of the intake stroke, fuel and air have been fully introduced and mixed in the cylinders combustion chamber. As the piston begins to move back up during the compression stroke, heat begins to build in the combustion chamber. When the piston reaches the end of this stroke, sufficient heat has accumulated to cause the fuel/air mixture to spontaneously combust (no spark is necessary) and force the piston down for the power stroke. Unlike conventional spark engines (and even diesels), the combustion process is a lean, low temperature and flameless release of energy across the entire combustion chamber. The entire fuel mixture is burned simultaneously producing equivalent power, but using much less fuel and releasing far fewer emissions in the process. At the end of the power stroke, the piston reverses direction again and initiates the exhaust stroke, but before all of the exhaust gases can be evacuated, the exhaust valves close early, trapping some of the latent combustion heat. This heat is preserved, and a small quantity of fuel is injected into the combustion chamber for a pre-charge (to help control combustion temperatures and emissions) before the next intake stroke begins. Challenges for HCCI An ongoing developmental problem with HCCI engines is controlling the combustion process. In traditional spark engines, combustion timing is easily adjusted by the engine management control module changing the spark event and perhaps fuel delivery. Its not nearly so easy with HCCIs flameless combustion. Combustion chamber temperature and mixture composition must be tightly controlled within quickly changing and very narrow thresholds that include parameters such as cylinder pressure, engine load and RPMs and throttle position, ambient air temperature extremes and atmospheric pressure changes. Most of these conditions are compensated for with sensors and automatic adjustments to otherwise normally fixed actions. Included are individual cylinder pressure sensors, variable hydraulic valve lift and electromechanical phasers for camshaft timing. The trick isnt so much as getting these systems to work as it is getting them to work together, very quickly, and over many thousands of miles an d years of wear and tear. Perhaps just as challenging though will be the problem of keeping these advanced control systems affordable. Self awareness also promotes effective communication and interpersonal relations, and also for developing empathy for others. After I have gone to the camp, I learn to face something I used to evade. I was raised up by my aunt when I was young. I always feel difficult to live in the love between my own parents and my aunt. These persecute me for long. All these years, I have never told the others about the above thoughts. I just want to escape from these things. However, I feel so pleased that I have finally let my thoughts released out when I told my classmates in the camp. I used to evade the problem of how to balance the relationships between my parents and my aunts and uncle. Genetically modified crops, foods etc. are made when scientist combine genes from different organisms to get desired traits in a certain organism. In the last two decades there has been a spike in the cultivation of transgenic crops. There are two main types of GMOs ones that are herbicide tolerant and others that are resistant to devastating insect. Herbicide tolerant GMOs can be sprayed with herbicides that kill weeds but not the genetically modified crops. This was developed by the company Monsanto. The second type of GM crop is resistant to devastating insects which is made by a bacterial gene which makes able to resist against certain insects. An example is corn BT which is able to resist the corn borer. Most Farmers who use these GM crops do it because they can make more money or it would ease their work load. As energy from the sun strikes the surface of the earth, it turns into heat which, in turn, releases the heat as long-wave infrared radiation (Crowe). These gases trap in heat as do the windows of a greenhouse; therefore, they are called greenhouse gases (Elston). Humans escalate the amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels and by many manufacturing processes (Crowe). In the U.S., from 1990-1997, carbon dioxide emissions have increased 10.7 percent (Elston). This activity and a warming atmosphere are causing drastic changes around the earth, especially in Florida. Global warming poses a threat to Florida’s beaches and freshwater supplies due to a rise in sea level (â€Å"Southeast†). Warming the atmosphere will raise sea levels by expanding ocean water, melting mountain glaciers, and melting parts of the Greenland Ice Sheet (â€Å"Beach Erosion†). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimates that the local sea levels may rise 8 to 30 inches by the year 2100 (â€Å"Global Warming Threatens†¦Ã¢â‚¬ ). The horizontal advance can be 150 to 200 times greater than the sea level rise, and even greater in areas with a moderate sloping shoreline (Alvarez et al). Consequently, saltwater will be forced to move landward, which shifts the border between saltwater and freshwater inland and causes the encroachment of saltwater into groundwater aquifers (â€Å"Southeast†). Over the longer-term, a three-foot sea level rise could be disastrous for aquifers in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and Homestead areas, which are locat ed on the low coastal ridge (Alvarez et al). Hotels, homes, and property within 200 to 250 feet of the current shoreline may be flooded (â€Å"Florida Scientists†). Many of Florida’s cities by the sea, including Miami Beach, Daytona Beach, Palm Beach, Clearwater, Key West, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Pensacola, and Marco Island, will face great hardships due to a rise in sea level (Alvarez et al). A warming atmosphere will also lead to changes in Florida’s agriculture which is highly sensitive to changes in weather and climate (â€Å"Southeast†). The production of citrus, sugarcane, and tomatoes adds billions of dollars to Florida’s economy (â€Å"Florida Scientists†). Global warming’s effects on agriculture will vary by location and on the specific crop (Alvarez et al). Warming temperatures and carbon dioxide fertilization will increase citrus production by about 6 to 20 percent in Florida over the next 40 to 50 years (Alvarez et al). Although citrus will benefit in the short-term, its productivity in the long-run will suffer (Alvarez et al). Citrus yields will begin to decrease once temperatures have gone past the nominal growing range and soil moisture has been reduced from the heat (Alvarez et al). Sugarcane is a $437 million industry in Florida and is mostly located in Palm Beach County (â€Å"Southeast†). Global warming may sever ely impact the production and sales of sugarcane (â€Å"Southeast†). If sea levels rise 18 to 20 inches, flooding will intensify and decrease sugarcane yields due to nutrient pollution problems (Alvarez et al). This will decrease sugarcane growth by about 20 percent (â€Å"Southeast†). Florida is also the nation’s leader in tomato production (Alvarez et al). However, a warming atmosphere could decrease the state’s tomato production by about 44 percent as a result of shortened growth cycles (Alvarez et al). Global warming will definitely lead to changes in how and where Florida farmers grow crops (â€Å"Southeast†). With some crops these changes may be beneficial and with others it may be detrimental. Global warming poses several potential health threats to the population of Florida. The first potential health threat is that of bad air quality (Elston). Higher temperatures increase the rate of smog formation, and increased use of fossil fuels could increase a range of air pollutants (â€Å"Global Warming†). A major component of smog, ground-level ozone, is formed from nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds (Epstein 51). As the atmosphere warms, this reaction speeds up and produces more smog (Epstein 51). Chronic respiratory diseases and obstructive pulmonary disease can be made much worse by breathing ozone (Elston). Carbon monoxide, sulfur oxide, and nitrogen oxides worsen existing cardiovascular diseases and may produce lung irritation and reduced lung function (Alvarez et al). Many of the germs that cause waterborne diseases, such as viruses, bacteria, and protozoa, survive longer in warmer water (Epstein 55). These challenges threaten the stateÐ ¢s natural areas, economic prosperity, agriculture, and human health. The state can avoid such harm by taking action before it is too late. Some solutions include driving efficiently, taking public transit, walking, or using a bicycle (Rauber 41), limiting the burning of fossil fuels for energy (Epstein 57), using compact fluorescent light bulbs, because each can prevent 400 pounds of coal from being burned to make electricity, buying a car which meets one’s needs, yet is very efficient (Rauber 41), and, finally, plant a tree or protect a forest (â€Å"Global Warming†). Trees absorb carbon dioxide and can offset some greenhouse gasses (Olgesby). Serious action needs to be taken now to avoid such devastating harm.

The purpose of any landing pages is to get your reader to perform a specific action. You may want your reader to complete an email sign-up form, register for an event, or start a trial for a service (just for a few examples). Whatever you consider to be your conversion step, everything write you should support that goal.  This should be the central focus of your writing. What Defines A Landing Page? By definition, a landing page is any page a user could "land on" from another page. According to Unbounce, In the purest sense, a landing page is any web page that a visitor can arrive at or â€Å"land† on. However, when discussing landing pages within the realm of marketing and advertising, it’s more common to refer to a landing page as being a standalone web page distinct from your main website that has been designed for a single focused objective. This means that your landing page should have no global navigation to tie it to your primary website. The main reason for this is to limit the options available to your visitors, helping to guide them toward your intended conversion goal. Any landing page should serve one clear defined purpose. This is a perfect example of identifying a business problem, and solving it with effective landing page messaging. Next, Find Your Keyword If you plan on using SEO or PPC to drive landing page traffic, then it's important to properly select keywords. Selecting a keyword to target essentially means claiming territory on a certain phrase that is being searched. For example, if you’re trying to sell an ebook on how to master a job interview, you may want to target the phrase â€Å"successful job interviews.† There are great tools, both free and paid, that will help you find the traffic around any keyword. The content of your page should also match the search intent behind your selected keyword. You should also target synonyms for your topic and focus. Start With  A Strong Intro Hook Writing an effective intro  is critical for keeping your reader on the page. It can be as simple as a sentence or two, or a full paragraph or more (depending on the legnth and style of your page). Any intro should do one thing, however: show your reader what's in it for them if they keep reading (or even convert). There should be absolutely no confusion as to what the reader will be getting from the landing page. A simple way to ensure that your audience knows what they’ll be getting out of the landing pages is to write clear value propositions. Here, they have blocks of content, each one stating one clear benefit: The key is to hook your reader by making benefits immediately clear. Someone using WordPress.com probably doesn't have a lot of coding skill. Therefore, all the copy here is focused on ease of use and community support.  And it's all conveyed to readers right away. Follow The Problem/Solution/Benefit Formula We've talked a lot about focusing on problems, solutions, and benefits. However, how do you actually  write in a way that conveys each of these points? Try following the Problem/Solution/Benefit formula. This isn't the only way to write copy, but it's an easy formula to follow if you're struggling. Establish a problem.  What's a common issue your audience has? Identify it and agitate it. Present a solution. Next,  state why  your product or service as the best solution to their problem. Ensure that your solution covers every detail of their problem. Show a benefit.  Now, you can  show your reader how much better life can be when their problem is solved. Here's a hypothetical example of all three of these pieces at work: Problem: Someone has  ants in their kitchen. Solution: A pest-control company offers non-toxic ant traps. Benefit: The customer won't lose any more groceries due to ant infestation. And here's a hypothetical example of what this copy could look like: "Stop letting ants ruin dinner. With BugCo's kitchen-safe ant traps, you'll be able to dine ant-free." Write better landing pages by focusing on problems, solutions, and benefits.This is obviously a rough example, but you can see the problem, solution, and benefit formula in action. TIP: Help your reader see how life could be better using your product or service. Make Your Call-To-Action Count The next step in creating your landing page is asking yourself, â€Å"What do I want readers to do?† The answer to this question should be  your call-to-action (CTA). Your CTA  is what prompts the reader to convert. For example, if you want your audience to sign up for a contest, your CTA could be â€Å"Enter to win this fabulous prize.† Your entire landing page copy would sell the reader on why they should care about you’re promoting enough to enter. Start your writing process by creating your CTA. From there, you can craft your landing page copy in a way that directs the reader to that action. Use Clear And Simple Language Keep sentences short and clear. Focus On Benefits Your customer knows what their problem is. They probably know what kind of tool or solution they need too. Your job is to show benefits that illustrate why your solution is the best one for a given application. We keep hammering on this point, but that's because it's that important. Remember That Sometimes Less Is More Landing pages don't have to be long to be effective. Sometimes, all you really need is a headline, simple body copy, and a call-to-action button. Write as much as it takes to make your point and drive your desired action. That's it. Here's an example of a super short landing page from Pedal Train, a company that makes pedal boards for guitar players: A headline, a paragraph of body copy, and a button, all connected to one purpose (getting you to download an infographic). That's all the page needs. Analyze Performance (And Do Better Next Time) Writing high-converting copy often requires experimentation and refinement over time. The landing page intro  copy starts by stating benefits (the ability to monitor marketing performance across multiple digital channels). The body content blocks below go into more detail, further illustrating benefits. The call-to-action then gives us the opportunity to try it for ourselves. That sounds like this hits all the right checkboxes for a successful landing page. Make sure ad messaging matches your landing page messaging.3 More  Examples Of Awesome Landing Page Copy What do high-quality landing pages look like in the wild? Let's take a look at some examples. WordStream This sign-up page from Wordstream is fairly straightforward. It does quite a few things right though. The headline conveys a clear benefit (saving time and money). The "Start Your Free Trial" call-to-action button is bright, clearly designed, and encourages conversions from customers who might not be ready to buy yet. Scrolling down, this page also incorporates stats and user testimonials. These  help  lend authority to the page. Pocket This example is really straightforward, but effective. The headline clearly tells you what Pocket does. It also makes two different sign-up methods (re: conversion steps) clear. Square This page immediately conveys a benefit to the reader (they can start selling immediately). It then leads into more information they may want to know before making a decision to start a trial. The page continues communicating further benefits, leading readers to more information they might need: And then at the end, everything leads to their call-to-action: Analyze Your Landing Page Performance You’ve published your landing page. How do you know how successful they are? You’ll first want to decide on a (reasonable) goal for them. Start By Setting SMART Goals One great way to set goals is to use the SMART method: Specific: Clearly define your goal and ensure that it’s not vague. A good example would be â€Å"I want to have 2000 conversions this month† instead of â€Å"I want more conversions† Measureable: Make sure that you can track this goal. Attach a number to it. For example â€Å"I want my read time on my landing pages to increase by 30%† should be used instead of â€Å"I want people to spend more time on my pages.† Aspirational: Don’t sell yourself short. Push yourself. Realistic: Make sure you can still attain your goal. Take a good look at your resources and obstacles and ensure that you can manage them to meet your goals. Time-bound: Set a time you want to be finished by. Be specific, even down to the hour. Set a goal like â€Å"This will be done by 3 p.m on August 2nd† instead of â€Å"some point.† Set landing page goals using the SMART methodology.Measure Performance With Analytics Tools There are a number of analytics platforms you can use. Here are four  key metrics to focus on: Bounce rate.  The bounce rate is the percentage of visitors who navigate away from your site after viewing only one page. Typically, marketers are trained to think high bounce rates are bad. However, landing page bounce rates are often high because they give your reader two options: convert, or leave. Time on page. Instead of worrying about bounce rates, pay attention to how long people stay on your pages. This is an important metric. The higher the time on your page, the more engaged your readers are. They’re more likely to convert if they’re engaged with what they’re reading on your page. A high time on page is a great metric to measure the quality of the content on your landing page. Conversion rate. This is one of the most important metric for landing pages. The conversion rate is the percentage of visitors who convert directly from your page. The success of your landing page will vary differently through every industry, but the higher it is, the better. Total conversions. How many form completions is your copy driving?
